At the film's core lie pertinent and important thematic concerns, but the manner it chooses to engage with them is kept deliberately lighthearted and frivolous, ensuring the conversation is open, inclusive and easily consumed. It talks of relationships and the familial space with a lens that is focused on interpersonal dynamics between men. 

 Lawrence has reached a point where any expression of love towards his twelve-year-old son, Jonas, will be jeered at and made fun of by his softball teammates. Though the film introduces you to the imagined and toxic standards of masculinity, as well as the idea of a family which can be both nurturing and oppressive, it never deviates from an approach that is marked by ease and humor. Its true strength lies in the fact that it does not take itself too seriously, the opposite of which could have possibly made the treatment of the subject matter hackneyed. 

 After an especially stressful day with his mates, Lawrence comes back home an emotional wreck who has to be comforted by a patient and sagacious Jonas. In a parodical reversal of roles, the son comforts his father. Following the kind words, the protagonist eventually finds himself strong enough to finally make a decision about Jonas and the softball team, however, will this decision come in time for Lawrence to make all the needed amends?

The film opens on a note that is fraught with tension - a man is sitting by himself at a restaurant, impatiently waiting for someone. The first impression is of darkness and shadows, a palette of deep colors that is intended to conceal the secrets that simmer underneath the surface. The entry of the second character deliberately makes the viewer locate the film as a crime fiction - one marked by a violent undertaking that has just seen its completion. After the premise has been set, the unexpected appearance of humour subverts the intensity located within the narrative so far, and allows it to now take another form the viewer did not see coming or prepare themselves for. What begins as a parody of crime fiction soon develops a whole new characteristic it had been preparing itself for all along. This, in turn, enables the film to not only succeed, owing to convincing performances, effortless chemistry of its two actors and crisp writing, but to also offer an interesting treatment and understanding of the word 'crazy', giving it a lighthearted (but well-meaning) and unpredictable twist.

‘Monster Mayhem’ stays very true to its title and offers a riot of events and emotions in its brief duration. Three people are under attack by a monstrous being, and as they take temporary shelter behind a vehicle, they struggle to take him down with a volley of attack. As each attack backfires, offering them absolutely no protection or force against their rival, the film presents its world to you - entertaining, parodical, funny and never taking itself too seriously. 
The film is an enjoyable ride when interacted with the same approach in mind. It would definitely be interesting to see it expanded into a longer project, provided it is able to sustain its tone.
