You Me, Him Her

Headlining the most awkward dinner parties of all time is the dinner party presented to the viewer in this film. When Lily and Luke arrive at Kate’s house after much procrastination and delay, they are still the first ones. The scene begins to unfold during what appears to be an ordinary night. However, we soon find out that Luke has an ongoing romantic entanglement with the party's host, Kate, alongside his girlfriend Lily.

Soon, Toby enters the situation, followed by the information that more people who were supposed to join cancelled last minute, leaving the four characters before us in an unusual kaleidoscope of very tricky and unexpected equations. The narrative offers the viewer a suspended moment of tension when the constant sense of something major about to go wrong never truly leaves, and yet, one can’t look away from this mess.

The background score, the cross on the wall forever present in the background of frames, and the white ensemble of Luke, all come together as a cohesive whole of a film which is fresh in its storytelling, and entertaining in its progression. The chemistry and performances enhance it in equal measure, and ensure that the film ushers in the prospect of more such films, short or feature, in the future.
