You are thrown into the high-paced world of Surprise the moment the film opens. The setting is of a party, complete with its multicolored lights, costumes, smartphone cameras and other related paraphernalia, where a man is about to be outed on social media for cheating on his boyfriend.
All of the events come to unfold within a seemingly single-take narrative. The viewer piggybacks on the camera as it swiftly moves from one character to another, becoming the protagonist more than the characters themselves. The final result further employs humor in unlikely ways to enhance itself better, and offers the dedication of a sizeable team to make the single-take approach succeed.
The visuals, however, could have been enriched more with a tighter control on lighting, allowing them to become a better version of their existent form, in turn, allowing the film to tell a story more entertaining and involving than it already is.
