thriller · Short Films · english

‘Saternus’ is an engaging conversation with the lust for power, familial dynamics and abusive patterns that get thrown in the mix. At the center of the portrayal of all of these concerns is the eponymous cult.

Ephraim, Atticus and Melver run their cult of exploitations in order to secure a specific amount of money. Once near their goal, it is time to conclude the charade they started. However, Ephraim, who has now tasted power, has different plans in mind. While Melver suspects something being deeply amiss, Atticus is stuck at a strange crossroads to still find it in her to trust her brother, while also placating and assuring Melver.

Things continue to fall flat one after another in quick succession, until a moment of high tension is reached within the narrative. It arrives in an organic, sustained manner, making the writing and weaving of the plot the most standout aspect of the film. As for the fate of the characters, some terrible truths lurk right around the corner, waiting to consume them at the slightest mistake.
