The film brings to life a character called Raghu in a small Indian town where he moves from one activity to another, gradually introducing you to the different aspects of his life. He does his mother's laundry, ensures she takes her medicines on time by constantly reminding her, and even gets her sweets on her birthday. By all measures, he is a loving, dedicated son. However, despite this ordinary narrative about a simple, small-town boy, something seems deeply amiss about the life Raghu has built for himself and is introducing the viewer to.
One almost expects a Bates Motel-esque development of events from this cheery character who continues to keep mentioning his mother, while the story never truly reveals her presence on screen. Instead, it chooses to portray those aspects of the protagonist's personality which exhibit his inability to be included and accepted by those around him. From his harmonium classes, which only receive two half-hearted pupils, to the complete indifference of his peers, there is little by way of interpersonal interaction available to Raghu.
Consequently, when the eventual reveal is made about Raghu's mother, one is left wondering whether the strange situation unfolding before you is a result of the perpetual denial of affection and relationships by those around him. It is at this juncture when the film concludes in an open-ended manner, leaving it to the viewer to comprehend the situation at hand as they deem fit.
