Costume Party

By Rachel Bass with 7.2

drama · Short Films · english

The film explores a moment of intimacy between absolute strangers, both going through their own respective bittersweet partings. The moment is heavy with the inexorability of time and a lack of control over situations that will leave our characters behind to nurse their hearts. The location chosen for all of this drama to unfold is a soon-to-be-shut costume shop.

The brief encounter leads to an unexpected moment of connection and comfort, and both the writing and screenplay ensure that this moment is achieved seamlessly. The chemistry of the two actors is unmissable, and the resultant narrative becomes heartfelt and earnest.

The visuals are skilled and not bogged down by cumbersome complexity, very much consistent with the rest of the film, ensuring that the impact is not lost in empty bells and whistles, and instead, is undeniable in its effect. The short is a fully rounded story in itself, and yet, it paves the path for an exploration of the characters and their worlds in a longer project in the future.
