Being Bublé

By Dan Perlman with 7.3

documentary · Short Films · english

The documentary presents a premise from the stranger-than-fiction realm, which is equally hilarious and heartfelt. When the protagonist, Dan Pearlman, is approached one day by a woman to impersonate internationally acclaimed singer Michael Bublé at her mother’s birthday party, a wonderfully unexpected narrative comes into existence. The bizarre circumstance he finds himself in becomes the perfect ingredient for a documentary film that writes itself.

As a clueless Dan begins to put together clothes, dives into research, and adopts some very roundabout ways of learning Bublé lyrics, the entertaining film draws the viewer deeper and deeper. The resultant narrative is funny but never at the expense of any of the characters involved... well, maybe except Dan himself, but the heart of the story remains fully in the right place throughout.

The end result is entertaining, uplifting, tightly controlled, with a heartwarming message at the end of it all that ties the whole endeavor together, and leaves the audience smiling widely long after they are done watching the film.
