2x4

drama · Short Films · english

Using a familiar character from our childhood, without really naming him or his imaginary friend, the short film invokes a conversation with loss and the consequent despair and loneliness. The story is of a man who is by himself during the coronavirus lockdown. As the pandemic rages on in the world, revealed by the news reports and videos that constitute his reality, he also battles with the death of his dog.

While attempting to make sense of all the events that surround him, and the emptiness and lack of companionship they have brought with them into his life, the protagonist finds himself turning to a piece of wood. The title of the film, as well as the visual realisation of its only character on screen, reminds the viewer of how sometimes returning to a childhood place of comfort can be the only ray of hope one might need to pull themselves back together.

2X4, also shot remotely with its primarily two-member cast working with each other by way of video calls, endeavours to reassert and underline this idea for its audience.
