Suicide

drama · Short Films · arabic

The narrative opens with a man attempting to take his own life. He tries several things - from a gun to poison to fire, but is unable to go all the way. Picking up his phone, he reaches out to others for advice on how to end his existence, and is instead met with an idea. He chooses to fake his death to make his sons realize how negligent and insensitive they are towards him.

As his children rush home to check on their dead father after seeing a suicide note online, a new revelation awaits both the protagonist and the viewer. The greed and apathy of his children is further brought to the fore, making it evident how little their father means to them.

In the process, the plot attempts a comment on isolation and loneliness of old age, and how disappointing familial structures can sometimes be. The final result is an endeavor in engaging with the same concerns, and should only be viewed thus.
