When a character is found snorting drugs while clearly drowning in some kind of emotional turmoil, a landscape of excesses and debauchery is already established for you. When this is coupled with him calling what seems like an artificial intelligence service, and giving them access to his videos and pictures, a certain image begins to be formed in the viewer's mind. The revelation of the recipient of this call, however, subverts any and all notions one may have conceived about the protagonist and his current state. Ideas of loss, tragedy and even familial love enter the narrative now, allowing the film to convey its message with all the intent it had set out with at the beginning. The use of the same physical space, controlled dialogue, and a lean cast and crew further allows the film to reach home in an efficient manner. It is a welcome prospect to interact with more such endeavors in storytelling by the team.

The same is explored by introducing the viewer to the first person narrative of a character called Omar Sherif, the creator and mind behind Love Chip, a technological achievement that can help you ascertain your partner's level of emotional investment in you. This, in turn, allows you to decide the course of your relationship and protect yourself from potential heartache. While familiarising the viewer with the chip, Sherif further brings up an unprecedented score of a ninety-eight percent that a man has achieved with his partner, breaking all other previous records. The viewer is allowed a glimpse into this anomaly right ahead of a meeting between Sherif and the man who has found his soulmate. However, when the conversation finally unfolds, it does not do so in a direction expected by the viewer. It is in this surprising plot development that the message of the film and what it wants to say about love lie, both for the protagonist as well as the audience.

Love Chip | Short Film Nominee

A portmanteau of the words together and forgetfulness, the title of the narrative serves as the defining entity for the reality of a woman who battles selective dementia. Her memory comes and goes in an arbitrary fashion, leaving her at the mercy of some very unexpected and potentially unpleasant circumstances. As two men make their way to her house for an interview, the entirety of this premise is realized, followed by events that attempt humor, romance and emotions of kinship and love. Through the woman's story, the narrative perhaps also endeavors to make a comment about the nature of love itself, as the comedic events of the first half take a backseat. The final result aims to be a sweet, moving story, but could have been enhanced with a little more stability in its visuals.
